Homeowners Protest In Florida

ForeclosuresRI President and co-founder, Jeremy Shapiro Massachusetts City Council President Robert Sullivan, wants to develop a plan to address the housing crisis and its impact on Brockton. As housing foreclosures continue to rise, the City Council president wants to lessen the impact on the city. Sullivan and his committee have invited city officials to report on the impact of foreclosed properties and develop a plan to address the increase. In Florida about two dozen people protested at the Orange County Courthouse, saying that a foreclosure task force appointed by Gov. Charlie Crist hasn't gone far enough to help them or end predatory lending practices. The protest was organized by a non profit organization that assists homeowners facing foreclosure. That group applauded the state-level attention to the mortgage meltdown but would like to see support for proposed sub-prime loan legislation. A legislative subcommittee studying the housing in Nevada and mortgage crisis was told that the state needs to make changes to protect renters who are too often the forgotten victims when a home is foreclosed. Most often renters get no notice that the home they live in is in the process of being seized. Homeowners have also been knowingly collecting rent from tenants while not making further mortgage payments because a foreclosure appears close at hand.
